This hymn was widely used from the early Middle Ages to the time of the Reformation, especially the opening verses
On this day we give thanks to God for preserving sound doctrine by His Word. The Gospel is our most valuable treasure, and we would gladly lose our lives for it because of the hope we have in Christ.

What is the goal of education? Not the acquisition of Mammon. The goal of education is Fides ad Deum, Charitas ad Vicinum, faith toward God, love toward the neighbor. Or as John Chrysostom very nicely sums it up: Χριστιανὸν αὐτὸν ποίησον: Make him a Christian.
