On the Last Day there will be a bodily resurrection. This is one of the most striking of Jesus’ teachings when compared with the prevailing beliefs in the Greco-Roman world.
“You could be torn away from me, alas!, by death alone; yet you will not be able to be torn away even by death!”
The Christian takes the Greek myth by the hand, so to speak, and leads him to Jesus. Ovid makes some fine points, but only Christians can take those points to their proper destination in the truth of Holy Scripture.
Even though they were pagans, and even though, when it comes to religion, they had ugly stick figures compared to the beautiful portrait of Christ in the Holy Scriptures, the ancient Greeks and Romans do have masterpieces on morality and ethics and language that can be of great use to us in raising our children.
